Many pregnant women in Minneapolis are curious if chiropractic care during pregnancy can help them. This is a common questions that are asked in a chiropractic office. The answer is simply a big old fat YES! Chiropractic can indeed help with pregnancy-related pain, and other issues.

A Canadian study showed that up to 76% of pregnant women experience pregnancy related back pain, with the prevalence of the pain increasing with increases in gestation.

A pregnant body undergoes rapid and extreme changes. These changes and stresses on the body cause pain in the great majority of soon to be mothers. While searching for a resolution to your pain give chiropractic care a try.

A case released in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine evaluated a 35-year-old pregnant woman with moderate to severe lumbopelvic and leg pain. She was experiencing low back pain that made her ability for walking and sitting limited. She was treated with chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue therapy, exercises, and ergonomic advice over the next 6 weeks for a total of 13 treatments. After her treatments she reported that her ability to walk, sit, and travel comfortably in a car had improved vastly. Even more her reported pain scores were reduced from a 7/10 to a 2/10.

why chiropractic for children matters

Why Chiropractic for Children Matters

Why Chiropractic for Children Matters
I am often times asked by parents or any adults in general, why does my child need to be adjusted? The irony being that they are often chiropractic patients themselves who love their adjustments. The answer is because they also have a spine, and nervous system, and there can be problems that the child doesn’t have the ability to tell you about.
Have you ever paid attention to how often a toddler learning to walk falls down? Constantly.
Kids are resilient, but through their various wild and reckless activities they can easily throw themselves out of alignment. And all of this at a crucial time in their lives where they are growing and developing.
Some children develop in the womb in atypical or odd positions, causing the child to adapt to this position causing potential early life spinal problems. Some children face more difficult problems.
In a study published by the Journal of Surgical Orthopaedic Advances they studied the efficiency of chiropractic treatment for children. Scoliosis, Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease, developmental dysplasia of the hip, cerebral palsy, skeletal dysplasia, and slipped capital femoral epiphysis were a some of the diagnosis for the 23 children in the study. The children received multiple sessions of chiropractic care for their conditions. In every case the parents of the children reported positive outcomes associated with chiropractic treatment.
Colic or excessive crying from infants is another issue that plagues many new parents. Chiropractic has been shown to help. A study on infant colic in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics showed that chiropractic care decreased crying time in infants with colic. So parents get you child adjusted and get some well deserved sleep.
These are just a few of the issues that Why Chiropractic for Children Matters.
If your child is struggling with an issue that you believe a chiropractor can help with please bring you child into Moe Bodyworks and let our staff show you why Why Chiropractic for Children Matters.
What to do about an disc injury in my spine

What to do about a disc injury in my spine?

What to do about a disc injury in my spine?

So,  you’ve found out that you may have an injured disc in your spine. You have questions, fears, and uncertainties. What does this mean? What do you have to do? Do you need surgery? We’re here to help give you some insight in this trying time.

When you talk to different medical providers they may tell you different things. Just leave it, it will get better one might tell you. While the other might say you absolutely need surgery, and all sorts of in between options. But which option is right for you?

The answer is completely in your hands as a patient. You get to make the decision.

Pain from disc herniation, the leading cause of sciatica, usually resolves within several weeks with conservative therapy. In patients with sciatica for 6 weeks, pain relief is faster with surgery than with conservative therapy; however, outcomes are similar at 1 year.

With similar outcomes after one year it becomes more of a question of how severe and how debilitating is your disc injury.

A study found in The Spine Journal compared the costs of conservative treatment (chiropractic, physical therapy) before discectomy. What they found was many disc patients will ultimately require a discectomy, however many will recover using the conservative management. During this study the average cost for a discectomy was $7,841.

With results similar after a year we at Moe Bodyworks ask that you try out our services before you quickly run to the knife to relieve your pain. Let the excellent staff naturally get your body in a position where it can begin to heal itself before subjecting yourself to surgery, because as we know all surgery comes with risk.

We have a saying; try Chiropractic first! Surgery can be painful, costly, and hard on your body. Why not try Chirorpractic first, to see if it can help you?

If you’d like to get started with us, all you need to do is contact us today. Walk-ins are welcome at Moe Bodyworks Chiropractic Minneapolis! We will work to help you to find out what you can do about a disc injury in your spine, and to help you to weigh your options and more.

How Chiropractors use X-Rays

How Chiropractors use X-Rays

How Chiropractors use X-Rays

X-rays are an invaluable tool for chiropractors. Chiropractors are concerned about the alignment of the skeletal system and the problems that misalignment can cause on nerves, organs, and other soft tissues. X-ray gives us the ability to actually see the bones! Now that’s pretty cool.

When I was in one of my radiology classes in chiropractic school my teacher used the acronym “CATBITES” to help remember what we look for on X-rays. Congenital Arthritis Tumor Blood Infection Trauma Endocrine Soft tissues. That is a list of everything that is evaluated on every X-ray that is taken.

But isn’t the radiation from X-rays dangerous? The answer is no. The radiation dose for a plain film radiograph, like the ones chiropractors take, is 100 times below the threshold for harmful effects. Similar to the dose you get from an airplane ride or a day in the sun.

The benefits from taking an X-ray far outweigh the risks. Utilizing X-ray technology allows chiropractors to truly assess the spine, or other area of concern. This cuts down on misdiagnosis and often time reveals information that otherwise would never have been known. Unknown fracture, tumors, calcification, misalignments, congenital malformations are all things commonly seen on X-rays.

Who living in Minnesota hasn’t slipped and fallen on the ice during winter? Or had a hard collision playing sports or rough housing with friends and family. Or maybe you fell off the swings when you were a child, bouncing up with a fracture and never realizing it, then 30 years later you have back pain and an unstable spinal segment.

X-rays are a quick and easy way to assure that your chiropractor can detect these variants. They can be taken in office in about 10 minutes, immediately giving crucial information that can affect your treatment. Sometimes even detecting serious or life saving abnormalities.

We use X-Rays at Moe Bodyworks Chiropractic in Minneapolis to help diagnose and treat issues. It is just one tool in our arsenal to work to help you to feel better!

If you have any questions about X-rays, please feel free to ask while you’re at Moe Bodyworks Chiropractic in Minneapolis, or send us a message. We are here to help!

Chiropractic for Athletic Performance

Chiropractic for Athletic Performance

Chiropractic for Athletic Performance

What is your chiropractor’s role in your athletic performance?

It can be much bigger than most people think. A chiropractic adjustment can help an athlete increase, strength, flexibility, muscle speed, endurance, and decrease the risk of injury.

Athletes tend to beat up their body no matter what activities they are doing. Over the course of a season an athlete’s body will get worn down, stressed, bruised, and knocked out of place.

Chiropractic can help by more than putting everything back into place. If a joint is subluxated or stuck, it does not move in its full range of motion. When this happens the joints next to the subluxated joints take on more stress to make up for the stuck joint. Over time this can cause problems even in young athletes.

Chiropractic adjustments can also affect an athlete’s muscles and how efficient they work. A study performed by European Journal of Applied Physiology found that after a single session of spinal manipulative therapy (an adjustment) increased muscle strength and corticospinal excitability (muscle firing speed) in elite Taekwando athletes.

When we talk about sports the difference between a good athlete and a great athlete, they are often fractions of a second. These changes after an adjustment could mean the difference between a tackle or a touchdown, between a spiked volleyball or a blocked one, or the difference in an athletes ability to comfortably run a whole race.

With the school season about to kick up and all the athletes heading to various camps, practices, and games think about chiropractic to keep your athletes in the game, and dominating the game.

If you want to speak with a Chiropractor who can help you decide how you can benefit from Chiropractic for athletic performance, give Moe Bodyworks Chiropractic in Minneapolis a call today to get started!

Chiropractic to help Ear Infections

Can Chiropractic help Ear Infections?

Can Chiropractic help Ear Infections?

Ask any parent that has had to contend with a child with an ear infection.  Not fun. They can come on from nowhere and be fast and furious. Screaming sad child in a lot of pain.

Chiropractors for generations have known how well chiropractic can work for ear infections.

In fact, it is one the fastest most immediate reliefs for otitis media.  I have adjusted hundreds of children with acute otitis media and have watched it dissipate with in seconds.  Many children regularly come for chiropractic simply to keep chronic ear infections at bay and have great results from regular adjustments.  I have worked with children that were on their tenth round of antibiotics for ear infections, three adjustments later the pain was gone and with regular adjustments, it has never come back..   Several patients were able to cancel scheduled surgery for ear tubes after discovering chiropractic.

Simply explained, when the middle ear fills with fluid- an infection can develop. A chiropractic adjustment can restore motion to the neck and structures that can contribute to fluid moving appropriately.  When the fluid can’t pool, you can reduce or eliminate the probability of an infection.

In a study published by Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapies, in children 93% of all episodes improved, 75% in 10 days or fewer and 43% with only one or two chiropractic treatments(1) — You can view the link below to get some more information on our source for this information.

For parents looking for an alternative to conventional treatment of antibiotics, chiropractic is great choice, and a great way to help you children feel their best without drugs.

We hope that we can help you and your family to feel happy and healthy. Please contact us today to get started!  We are here to help you.

stress -- chiropractic in Minneapolis

Chiropractic for Stress Relief

Let’s talk about Chiropractic for Stress Relief.

Stressed out of your mind? Get a chiropractic adjustment.

One of the greatest blessings of my job is to interact with patients during their most intense times in life. I am grateful to be privy to be there during the best of times and worst of times. One constant benefit that chiropractic has to offer is its benefit for stressful fast paced life. Stress affects us all and has a direct impact on our nervous system, immune system and all systems. By adjusting the spine and body, as chiropractors, it helps to restore balance and homeostasis to the nervous system and subsequently to the whole body.

A recent study confirms what chiropractors have always known- Chiropractic helps with stress.

The study examines the effect of chiropractic spinal manipulative therapy on salivary cortisol levels- cortisol is released by the adrenal glands in response to stress and salivary levels can be measured as an indicator of your body’s response to stress….cortisol has been called the “stress hormone’ and can lead to inflammation and increased body weight, especially belly fat.

Prospective case series over six weeks duration. The trial consisted of establishment of each individual’s baseline cortisol level, a two week treatment period (4 treatments), and a two week post treatment period.

The study revealed results of statistical significance (p<0.001) for reduction of salivary cortisol over the complete five week study- Bottom line????? Chiropractic helps your body mitigate stress.

Take away- Times of stress? Get adjusted. Control stress long term? Make chiropractic a part of your regular health regimen. Chiropractic for Stress Relief could help you to feel better and less stressed.

5 Things you should do if you have Whiplash or Neck Pain after a Car Accident

No one should ever have to deal with a car accident, but the fact is that we can all end up in some trouble sometimes. So, what are 5 things you should do if you have whiplash or neck pain after a car accident?

Moe Bodyworks’ very own Nick Anderson has some answers.

If you’re having neck pain or suffering from whiplash after a car accident, call us today to book your free consultation!

  1. Documentation is key. After any kind of Car Accident you want to make sure everything is documented and the best way to do that is with a police report. Sure, if there are no serious injuries the police typically don’t like being called but it is part of their job. If all you do is exchange insurance information with the person who rear-ended you, you may find out they actually didn’t have any coverage at the time of the accident. They may even tell their insurance company that it was all your fault. Oh and guess what, that address you wrote down from their license was actually from 2 moves ago. Now you are left with Neck Pain and bills and there is nothing you can do about it.
  2. If you have any Neck Pain after a Car Accident you need to see a Medical Professional like a Chiropractor. Our Minnesota’s very own Mayo clinic says “See your doctor if you experience any neck pain or other whiplash symptoms following a car accident or traumatic injury”. What is Whiplash and what are Whiplash Symptoms? Chiropractors are specialists of the spine and you never need a referral to see a Chiropractor.
  3. If you have pain you NEED to inform your insurance company. Wait, but won’t that increase my insurance premiums? No your insurance rates will on only go up if you were deemed to be “at fault”. An insurance company is not able to increase your rates because you make a claim no fault benefits.
  4. Ice Ice Baby! No listening to Vanilla ice won’t help that Whiplash or Neck pain go away but when you have acute pain, ice is the only way to go. Some people say to use heat because it feels good and ice is too cold, but think about this, have you ever seen an athlete use heat on a painful shoulder or knee right after a game, neither have I. Ice will help keep that pesky inflammation down and subsequently keep any swelling and pain at bay, at least for now. This is the perfect time to schedule an appointment and see your Chiropractor.
  5. Avoid the medications if possible. No I am not one of those Chiropractors who makes it a daily goal to bash medication, but they do mask the pain and if you don’t follow the directions on the bottle they may create a whole host of other problems. Pain is there for a purpose and that purpose is to tell you loud and clear DON’T DO THAT! If that message is masked and you continue to “do that” you will only make the injury worse and recovery will be a longer road. The only exceptions in my opinion are at night when we are asleep and healing and when you just have to get things done like if you are a busy parent. But even then you are better off seeing a professional like your Chiropractor.

We hope you found this blog on 5 Things you should do if you have Whiplash or Neck Pain after a Car Accident useful.

Neck pain from shoveling snow minneapolis

3 Things To Do If You Have Pain From Shoveling Snow

3 Things To Do If You Have Pain From Shoveling Snow

  1. The first thing you should do if you are injured after shoveling snow is the last thing you want to hear, ice the injured area. I know, I know you were just outside and it’s winter, but here is the thing, whether you you have a simple strain or a more serious sprain inflammation is setting in and Ice is the best non-medication at home treatment you can do. But a hot pack feels really good you say, well of course it does you just came from outside and the last thing you feel like doing is sitting down with a bag of ice. But heat is going to bring more blood to the area and increase localized swelling ultimately making things worse. Ice on the other hand will decrease localized swelling, pain and discomfort.
  2. The second thing you should do after a night of icing is to get into your Chiropractic doctor and get checked out. Here is the thing, if you wait to “see if it gets better” or just take a handful of pain medication you aren’t fixing the problem and you are setting yourself up for repeat injuries. Your Chiropractor will be able to tell you exactly what went wrong, how to fix it and how to prevent it from happening again in the future.
  3. After you have sat down with your Chiropractor and come up with a solid treatment plan a nice massage might be in order, especially if you are suffering from muscle spasms.

We hope you found this article on 3 Things To Do If You Have Pain From Shoveling Snow helpful.
